CFE and ENGIE México kick off the construction of the Mayakán Energy Expansion Gas Pipeline to ensure natural gas supply in the Yucatán Peninsula, generating thousands of jobs.

The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and Mayakán Energy, a subsidiary of ENGIE México, have announced the commencement of construction on the Mayakán Energy Expansion Gas Pipeline. This project aims to secure the necessary natural gas supply for power generation in the Yucatán Peninsula in the coming years. The expansion will grant access to over 567 million cubic feet of natural gas daily through a 700-kilometer pipeline traversing the states of Campeche, Chiapas, Tabasco, and Yucatán.

The project will drive economic and social development in the region, creating over 4,000 direct and indirect jobs, with an investment exceeding $2 billion.

Additionally, 275 social infrastructure projects will be constructed. Felisa Ros, ENGIE México's country manager, highlighted that the commencement of construction marks a significant milestone enabling the continuation of energy development plans in the states the pipeline will cross, contributing to the region's social welfare and energy security.

Manuel Bartlett Díaz, CFE's director-general, emphasized that this project, alongside the CFE's recovery and the construction of 30 new power plants, two of them in Yucatán, represents a major challenge to achieve the solid and future development of the peninsula. Bartlett stated that these efforts were not easy, but they have been achieved, enabling the region to grow with a vision of industrial, modern, and powerful development.

The French Ambassador to Mexico, Delphine Borione, underscored the importance of collaboration between Mexico and France through public and private enterprises, highlighting that this project reflects the best of Franco-Mexican cooperation in social, ecological, and technological aspects.

The construction commencement was witnessed by notable figures, including the Secretary of Energy, Miguel Ángel Maciel Torres; the CEO of CFEnergía, Miguel Santiago Reyes Hernández; the Governor of Campeche, Layda Sansores San Román; and the Secretary of Economic Development and Labor of Yucatán, Ernesto Herrera Novelo, representing the Governor of Yucatán, Mauricio Vila Dosal.
