Egypt is set to announce an international tender for the import of 740,000 tons of petroleum products, aiming to bolster its fuel supply amidst rising energy demands. Scheduled for August, the tender will encompass 400,000 tons of diesel, 170,000 tons of gasoline, and 170,000 tons of butane.
In a parallel move, Egypt is also initiating a tender for the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Bids for five LNG shipments are expected to be invited in August and September. Two of these shipments, totaling 145,000 tons, are slated to arrive at the Port of Sokhna next week.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly highlighted the urgency of these initiatives, noting that Egypt's daily energy consumption has exceeded 37 GW this year—a 12% increase from the previous year—resulting in a 4 GW deficit. Currently, Egypt's annual diesel and petrol consumption is approximately 12 million and 6.7 million tons, respectively.
