Khalda Petroleum Company, a prominent player in Egypt's energy sector, has announced a major oil discovery in the West Fewebs-1 area within the Kalabsha Development Area of the Western Desert. This discovery marks a significant milestone in Egypt's ongoing efforts to bolster its energy production capabilities amidst rising demand and concerns over energy shortages.
The newly drilled well reached a depth of 270 feet into the Paleozoic sands, yielding an impressive recovery rate of 7,165 barrels of oil per day, alongside 23 million cubic feet of associated gas. The oil is of exceptional quality, rated at 44 degrees API. The electrical logs of the well confirmed substantial hydrocarbon reserves, with a total net thickness of 462 feet, indicating a promising reservoir.
This discovery is expected to play a crucial role in Egypt's strategy to enhance its energy output and reduce dependence on imports. The announcement coincides with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company's launch of a new international bid round for the exploration and exploitation of natural gas and crude oil across 12 blocks in the Mediterranean and Nile Delta regions.
Khalda Petroleum's success in the Western Desert underscores Egypt's potential as a key player in the global energy market, and the country’s commitment to attracting international investment to further develop its rich natural resources.
