ReconAfrica, a Canadian company, has announced plans to commence drilling its first onshore exploration well in Namibia this June. This initiative is part of the company's 2024 petroleum exploration strategy, which includes drilling multiple exploration wells onshore, particularly in the PEL 73 area of the Kavango Basin.

The company provided details on Thursday, April 18, about its 2024 drilling campaign in the Kavango Basin, focusing on the Damara Fold and Thrust Belt area within PEL 73.

Scheduled for June 2024, the exploration work will begin with the drilling of the first exploration well, named Naingopo, targeting a prospective reserve of 163 million barrels of oil and 843 billion cubic feet of natural gas.

Operationally, ReconAfrica plans to drill this well to a depth of approximately 12,500 feet. The operations will involve logging, coring, and flow testing over a period of 90 days.

Brian Reinsborough, CEO of ReconAfrica, stated, "We are meeting this week with our partners Namcor and the Ministry of Mines and Energy to finalize the detailed drilling program and future drilling and subsurface data acquisition plans."

Once these steps are completed, the drilling rig Jarvie-1 will be mobilized to the site to drill the Naingopo well. The results of this well will be crucial in determining whether ReconAfrica will proceed with drilling a second well in the area in the fourth quarter.
