London, July 10th (The Energy Circle) - SapuraOMV Upstream, currently being acquired by TotalEnergies for US$1.6 billion through two separate transactions, has begun gas production from its flagship Jerun gas field off the coast of Malaysia. The operator, a joint venture between Malaysia's Sapura Energy and Austria's OMV, confirmed gas flow from its prime asset in the SK 408 production sharing contract (PSC).

Located approximately 160 kilometres northwest of Bintulu, Jerun was discovered in 2015, with a final investment decision made in March 2021. The Jerun A central processing platform (CPP) is designed to produce up to 550 million cubic feet of gas per day, alongside 15,000 barrels per day of condensate at peak output. Gas is transported via a newly constructed 80-kilometre pipeline to the E11RB production hub, from where it is delivered to the Petronas LNG Complex in Bintulu, Sarawak.

The Jerun CPP, which includes a 15,000-tonne topsides and an 11,200-tonne jacket, was fabricated by Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering at its Pasir Gudang, Johor facility. Netherlands contractor Dockwise, sub-contracted by MMHE, managed the installation using the semi-submersible heavy-lift vessel Forte. Additionally, 5300 tonnes of piles for the Jerun development were constructed by local contractor OceanMight at its Sarawak yard.

The SK 408 PSC sees SapuraOMV holding 40% equity, with Petronas Carigali and Shell each owning 30%.
