Fortis Energy and İnelso Energy Systems have signed a joint investment agreement to develop a 30 MWp solar power plant combined with a battery energy storage system (BESS) in Serbia’s Vojvodina region. Enkraft Energy will serve as the project’s EPC contractor.

The EUR 25.5 million project has reached ready-to-build (RTB) status, with construction expected to begin once the required permit is issued.

30 MWp Solar + BESS Project Planned in Vojvodina

The project will be developed in Vojvodina, northern Serbia, around 33 kilometers from the capital, Belgrade. The photovoltaic plant is expected to generate more than 40 GWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the electricity consumption of more than 11,000 households, while avoiding an estimated 19,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.

The project will combine long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with participation in the merchant electricity market. Fortis said this structure is intended to optimize project revenues while benefiting from the increasing maturity and liquidity of Serbia’s electricity market.

Battery Storage at the Centre of the Project

The integrated BESS is a key part of the project, allowing electricity generated by the solar plant to be stored and used when needed.

By shifting energy from periods of high solar generation to periods of higher demand, the battery system is designed to make the project's renewable electricity output more reliable and easier to integrate into the power system.

The project also supports Fortis Energy’s Green Baseload strategy, which combines renewable generation with energy storage to provide a more stable power supply.

Enkraft Energy Takes EPC Role

Enkraft Energy will be responsible for the project's full engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) scope. The company said the project marks its operational launch as a dedicated EPC platform for solar and energy storage projects across Southeast Europe.

Once the construction permit is issued, Enkraft expects to move directly into mobilization and site works.

New Opportunity in Serbia’s Renewable Energy Market

The project brings together three Turkish companies across investment, renewable energy development, EPC and energy storage, highlighting growing cross-border activity between Turkey and Southeast Europe.

For the wider Balkan energy market, the project creates opportunities across solar development, battery storage, EPC services, engineering and energy infrastructure, while showing the growing role of BESS in new renewable energy projects.
