Senior Advisor to the Chairman for Upstream

Bashir Garea is a seasoned professional with over four decades of experience in the upstream exploration and production sector. His extensive career began in July 1981 and includes work with Occidental of Libya, Zueitina Oil Company, Repsol Oil Operations, and Repsol Exploration (REMSA). In the UAE, he worked with Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations (ADCO) and Mubadala Petroleum. In Qatar, he contributed his expertise to Qatar Petroleum (QP). Since May 2012, Bashir has been with the National Oil Corporation (NOC) in Libya. He initially served as Exploration Manager for nine years, overseeing exploration activities and contributing to significant discoveries. In May 2021, he transitioned to his current role as Senior Advisor, where he provides strategic insights and guidance to the corporation. Bashir holds a Master of Science in Geological and Earth Sciences/Geosciences from the University of Glasgow, obtained between 1989 and 1991. He also has a Bachelor's degree in Geology/Earth Science from Indiana University Bloomington, which he earned from 1977 to 1981.
